Amsterdam

Amsterdam would have to have been my favourite stop so far! It's pretty, it's laid back- what more could you want?

I must say, looking back at Paris it was beautiful by night when the tower sparkles and the streets are bustling, but during the day it's a giant tourist trap. Amsterdam isn't like that at all. It's beautiful day and night, you'd never get sick of wandering the canals, hearing the bells of every bike telling you to get out of their way (why would they make the bike lanes look exactly like footpaths? Stupido).

The Dutch were much more polite than the French, always willing to help. When you're lost looking for your hostel with a 16kg back pack a friendly face and a point in the right direction is a breath of fresh air..

We made a trip to the redlight district on our second night which was actually really good! It was lots of fun looking at all the girls in the windows! We even seen an old one (maybe mid 50's?) scratching her vagina... I guess if you're into that kind of stuff.. Crabs? Along with the bad there was a lot of attractive ones too. It's a really interesting culture to experience just walking the streets and watching.

We did however, have our first little scare in the red light district where a man started following us really, really closely behind stopping when we stopped, eyeing my bag. Luckily we walked head on into a million other people and managed to lose him. It was pretty scary though! We watched him from the other side of the canal and noticed there was a couple of them conspiring together to trap less aware tourists.

I think when anyone says Amsterdam the first thing people associate is the drugs, it's so not like that. I felt like I barely even remembered it exhisted until we would walk past a coffee shop and catch a whiff of the smoke.

The remainder of our time in Amsterdam we spent shopping, eating the best steaks of our lives from an Argentinian grill (probably didn't even need a knife it was so soft), poffitijes (I bet that's not how it's spelt) those mini Dutch pancakes.... WOWWWW. Especially drowned in Nutella.
